A Cultural Strategy for East Lindsey and Boston, Lincolnshire, UK

TFCC has been commissioned by East Lindsey and Boston councils to develop a fresh cultural strategy and framework for these two distinctive local authorities in east and south east Lincolnshire. By working together, the ambition is to scale up and grow the role of culture to drive inclusive economic development, enhance the quality of place and improve health and wellbeing. These two districts have a rich and engaging heritage yet face significant challenges such as in social cohesion, skills and sustainable employment.

TFCC will work to develop a vision, thematic priorities and action plan so that culture can play a starring role and drive investment via new funding such as the Towns Fund and Levelling Up Fund.

Future-proofing Showroom / Workstation, Sheffield UK

TFCC has been commissioned by Sheffield Showroom / Workstation to support the organisation in its next chapter. Housed together in a converted car showroom in the Cultural Industries Quarter, Showroom / Workstation are a major hub for cultural production and consumption. Showroom is the largest independent cinema in the UK and has built a reputation for diverse cinema programming and the development of film culture. Workstation is one of the leading centres for creative talent and innovation in Sheffield. From internationally renowned design studios and high growth tech firms, to award winning theatre companies and filmmakers, The Workstation is home to some of the most exciting cultural, creative and digital businesses in the city.

However, to ensure continues success, Showroom / Workstation need to reflect on their role in the cultural ecosystem of Sheffield and the city region. This exercise will shine a light on how the organisation is understood and valued. It will also scope its potential role in a fast-changing post-Covid and post-Brexit major city.

TFCC are set to undertake a programme of interviews with a sample of strategic partners, lead a Board Away Day, and set out a series of strategic options for renewal and sustainable development.

Fifth Annual International Forum - Creative Ukraine

Tom Fleming will provide a keynote address at the Creative Ukraine Summit, a major event for creative and cultural industries policy exchange. Building on our recent work advising the Ministry of Culture in the development of a National Creative Economy Framework, Tom will set out the key opportunities and challenges for sector development - both in the Ukraine and internationally.

The Creative Ukraine Forum is the largest platform in Eastern Europe for political and
expert discussion on policy-making in the field of creative industries. Creative businesses, international culture and economics experts, officials and civil society representatives will be involved in designing ways of boosting the Ukrainian creative economy.

Connect: City - Enhancing the Role of Creative Hubs for Inclusive and Sustainable Development, Wet Java, Indonesia.

Tom Fleming will provide a keynote for this major conference hosted by the West Java Provincial Government. Tom will present highlights from our ongoing research for The British Council to develop in-depth cultural and creative economy profiles for 60 cities in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and China. Tom will highlight the ways creative hubs are playing a vital role in nurturing creative talent, connecting communities and delivering positive impacts across a range of agendas.

Hosted online and at Bogor creative hub, other speakers include the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Government of Indonesia.

Digital Learning Journey XII: How are the cultural and creative industries shaping urban futures?

Tom Fleming is set to participate in an on-line event which explores the impact of European Capital of Culture on small and medium-sized cities. This includes a focus on Guimaraes, where Tom worked as Programme lead on the creative city for European Capital of Culture 2012.

The event is organised by the German Federal Government as part of a programme of research and knowledge exchange on cultural strategy and investment for cities.

The session is live at 5pm BST and 6pm CET.
